Coalville and Ashby Recreation Centers are set to offer free membership to children in care – and young people experienced in care – from this month.

Selected centers run by operator Everyone Active are taking part in the new initiative to reduce barriers between children and young people who participate in sport and physical activity.

The North West Leicestershire centers are: Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Center and Ashby Leisure Center and Lido – both run in partnership with North West Leicestershire District Council.

Free membership will give them access to a range of facilities depending on their age, including gym, swimming, soft play and group exercise.

According to the latest figures from the Department of Education for Children in Care (CLA) in England, the number of children in care is at an all time high, at more than 80,000 children, or 67 out of 10,000.

This year, Everyone’s Active launched its National Community Health and Wellness Strategy, with the goal of meeting the needs of individual communities through programs that help people be physically active and feel happy and healthy. in good health.

As part of the strategy, this membership will support children in care or experienced young children with free access to recreational facilities that can help improve their physical health and mental well-being.

Free membership for children in care and young people experienced in care can be viewed and set up through a referral system from the local council’s Family Support Teams.
