Oxford Golf Club boosts vaccination campaign with free membership for young piped player

An Oxfordshire golf club is doing its part to encourage young people to get vaccinated against Covid by offering free membership for one year to one lucky player.

The Oxford Golf Club will include all student and Colt members who can prove they have been doubly vaccinated before Christmas Day in the one-time draw which will entitle the winner to one year of free golf.

The historic course, located on Hill Top Road in Cowley, hosts the competition after NHS England data revealed that only 70% of all 18-29 year olds living in the UK received their first jab on August 12.

He hopes the prize, worth up to £ 1,225, will encourage his student and Colt members, aged up to 35, to get vaccinated.

In addition to one year of free golf, membership includes free reception hall rental, reciprocal golf at select UK courses, up to 15% off the bar and the chance to win Oxford United tickets .

Steve Greenwood, Managing Director, said: “This should appeal to our younger members, but at the same time help spread this important message. ”

Oxford Golf Club pro Joe Pepperell added: “Golf has been a lifeline for many over the past year, with participation levels reaching a new high.

“Being outdoors and exercising has proven to be one of the biggest contributors to improving our mental well-being. Our location means we have a lot of student members from the city’s universities and colleges, which is another factor we felt was important for us to play our part in the immunization education campaign. ”
