MDU offers free membership to doctors fleeing war in Ukraine
The Medical Defense Union (MDU), the UK’s leading medical defense organisation, today announced that it will offer to waive the first year of membership for doctors fleeing Ukraine or other areas of conflict and looking to return to practice in NHS roles.
This follows news that the GMC plans to fast-track applications for doctors fleeing war. Physicians applying for MDU membership will first need to register with the GMC. Membership will be free for the first year for members working in NHS compensated roles.
Dr. Matthew Lee, CEO of MDU, said:
“Doctors and other medical professionals fleeing conflict zones, including the war in Ukraine, have been through a truly horrific time. We want to support those members arriving in the UK with free MDU membership for their first year in NHS practice. This is in recognition of the solidarity that medical professionals feel with their colleagues in Ukraine and other affected countries. Of course, we hope that the affected healthcare professionals can return to their countries as soon as it is safe to do so, but we want to help them continue to practice in the meantime. »
