Hucknall Leisure Center will launch free membership for Children in Care and Experienced Young People in Care

Everyone Active, which runs all the leisure centers in the district in partnership with Ashfield District Council, is taking part in the new initiative to reduce barriers between children and young people taking part in sport and physical activity.

Free membership will give access to a range of facilities depending on age, including gym, swimming, soft play and group exercise.

According to the latest figures from the Department of Education for Children in Care (CLA) in England, the number of children in care is at an all time high, at more than 80,000 children, or 67 out of 10,000.

New £2.7million Hucknall Pool ‘on track’ to open next spring

As part of the strategy, this membership will support children in care or experienced young children with free access to recreational facilities that can help improve their physical health and mental well-being.

Free membership for children in care and young people experienced in care can be viewed and set up through a referral system from the local council’s Family Support Teams.
