Harrow’s three main leisure centers will offer free membership to children in care and young people experienced in care from this month, it has been announced.
Centers including Harrow Leisure Centre, Hatch End Swimming Pool and Bannister Outdoor Sports Centre, which are run by award-winning operator Everyone Active in partnership with Harrow Council, are taking part in the new initiative to reduce barriers between children and adults. young participants. in sport and physical activity.
According to the latest figures from the Department of Education for Children in Care (CLA) in England, the number of children in care is at an all time high, at more than 80,000 children, or 67 out of 10,000.
Free membership will give them access to a range of facilities depending on their age, including gym, swimming, soft play and group exercise.
Everyone Active has launched its National Community Health and Wellbeing Strategy, with the goal of “meeting the needs of individual communities through programs that help people be physically active and feel happy and healthy. “earlier in the year.
As part of the strategy, this membership will support children in care or experienced young children, with free access to leisure facilities that can help improve their physical health and mental well-being.
Free membership for children in care and young people with care experience can be viewed and set up through a referral system from the Council’s local Family Support Teams.
