BR Metro Black Chamber of Commerce offers free membership during Black History Month

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — As we inch closer to February, the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce is offering free membership for the first week of Black History Month.

The organization invites all established and emerging Black-owned businesses in EBR Parish to join the chamber for free through February 7.

BRMBCC’s mission is to empower Black entrepreneurship to build a stronger Black community with goals to inspire, develop, educate, promote and cultivate economic success in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

Board Chairman Aaron Franklin says it’s important for black businesses to come together and network.

“There are a lot of things that we don’t pick up on in our community, especially with young entrepreneurs. I believe education is what we need to focus on,” Franklin says.

Due to the pandemic, black businesses have only declined by 40%, which has directly affected the community as a whole. BRMBCC’s vision is equal representation and inclusion in the Greater Baton Rouge region.

Other events organized by the BRMBCC include:

  • Black History Month Membership Drive February 1-7 Free for Black Businesses
  • February 20 – Ride with the Chamber: Downtown Community Bike Ride and Street Festival with Bargain Vendors
  • Feb 22 – Sip & Learn on Business Credit, Taxes & Accounting
