AGSM free membership campaign underway
If you’ve ever wanted to get more involved in the local arts scene and help revitalize historic downtown Brandon, now is your chance.
The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM) is offering memberships as part of its Make Yourself Part of the Picture campaign, which began Feb. 1 and will run through March 5.
A press release said the Manitoba Arts Council is funding the campaign. This will see over 350 family or group and individual memberships granted to residents of the southwestern region of Manitoba.
This is to encourage residents of Westman to participate in the revitalization of downtown Brandon and renew support for the arts, the statement said.
A membership in AGSM provides early access to course registrations, discounts to the gallery gift shop and paid workshops or events, discounts on facility rentals as well as discounts at select retail locations in the Westman region.
Members who are artists themselves also have the unique opportunity to showcase their work at the 17-year-old Annual Member’s Show.
“By choosing to be a member of this wonderful arts community organization, you have the opportunity to explore a variety of visual arts, photography, ceramics and writing classes offered at a discounted rate. It’s a way fantastic for families to connect and enjoy a also a slate of prairie-focused exhibits,” gallery services coordinator Monica Joshi said in the release, adding that when the Council of Manitoba arts offered funding to rebuild after the devastating effects of the pandemic on Brandon’s arts and culture scene, they chose to use the funds to rebuild our arts family.
“We hope these subsidized memberships will help us reach creative members of the community who have thought about getting involved with the gallery, but just need a little help.”
The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is Manitoba’s oldest public art gallery, dating back to 1907, and the largest outside of Winnipeg.
In addition to its ongoing exhibition program, it offers three full sessions of art classes for youth and adults, an additional summer option for youth and children, as well as intensive specialist workshops, each year .
